How does tillage affect soil C sequestration?

In Webinar 4 we ask how tillage management influences soil carbon storage and net greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture. We will hear case studies and global insights from Dr. Humberto Blanco-Canqui (University of Nebraska-Lincoln) and Dr. Stephen Ogle (Colorado State University).

Time: September 8th, 3:00 PM Eastern.

Dr. Humberto Blanco-Canqui is a professor in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Blanco’s research and teaching program responds to the needs of Nebraska agriculture and beyond. He emphasizes the application of scientific principles of soil management and applied soil physics to meet the increasing demands for food, feed, fuel, and fiber while enhancing soil ecosystem services. His professional contributions in major areas include: crop residue management, cover crops, conservation tillage, dedicated energy crops, biochar, and other organic amendments.

Dr. Stephen M. Ogle is a Professor and Senior Research Scientist at Colorado State University. He focuses on research dealing with biogeochemical processes influencing greenhouse gas emissions from Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Uses (AFOLU), and is an expert on application of greenhouse gas inventory methods.  He serves as lead technical compiler for the US national inventory of soil-related greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural lands (CO2, N2O and CH4).  Dr. Ogle has been actively engaged with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, recently serving as coordinating lead author on the 2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. He has also worked with over 20 governments in developing countries to improve their greenhouse gas inventories through US and UNFCCC capacity building projects.
